What's The Right Cleaning Method?

The right cleaning method for your rug depends on several factors:

  • Material: Some materials do not hold up to steam cleaning or certain cleaning solutions. We tailor our cleaning methods to be effective and safe for your rugs.
  • Age and Condition: We typically hand-wash older and more fragile rugs and avoid cleaning solutions that might weaken the rug fibers and colors.
  • Color Fastness: Color Fastness is the stability of the dyes that color your rug. Excessive heat, wetness or harsh cleaning solutions can cause your rug to bleed its colors and become faded. We always perform a spot-test on a small area of your rug before full cleaning.
  • Rug Construction: How a rug is made dictates how sturdy it is and how much stress it can take during cleaning.

Dry Cleaning

Dry cleaning is used for rugs that are very delicate or are prone to discoloration or color bleeding when in contact with water, steam or liquid cleaning solutions. Silk and antique rugs are typically better suited for dry cleaning. Dry cleaning involves covering the rug with a power-like cleaning agent that absorbs dirt and debris stuck in the rug fibers. After the powder has fully set and bonded with the dirt, dust and other unwelcome guests, we use a powerful vacuum to remove the dirt-filled powder.

Hand Washing

Hand washing is our preferred method for antique and handmade rugs. At Hialeah Carpet cleaner, we use pH-balanced shampoo and soft brushes to gently coerce the dirt out of the rug fibers. With hand washing, we can achieve a better quality safer clean than any machine can offer. We make sure to thoroughly rinse all of the shampoo out of the rug and allow the rug to fully dry in conditions that prevent any shrinkage or warping.

Immersion Wash

At Carpet Cleaner Hialeah, we use a technique called immersion washing for most area rugs and even some antique rugs. We immerse rugs in our wash pit (right), in a bath of water and cleaning solution. This is a very effective method for not only removing dirt and debris but odors as well. We thoroughly rinse all of the cleaning solution out of your rug and then. Use specialized drying equipment to ensure the rug dries evenly and there is no mold or mildew growth.

Steam Cleaning

For synthetic and durable wool area rugs, we use steam cleaning to forcefully dissolve and lift dirt and debris out of the rug fibers which are then immediately extracted by the powerful vacuum of the machine. Steam cleaning is a highly effective way to deep clean and sanitize your area rugs. We do not use this method on antique or delicate rugs due to the high pressure, temperature and moisture involved.

Foam Cleaning

Foam cleaning is another low-moisture alternative to dry cleaning. It works in a similar way to dry cleaning by encapsulating dirt and debris stuck in the rug fibers. We gently massage the foam into your rug with soft brushes and then remove the dirty foam with a vacuum to lift the dirt and debris off of your rug. Like dry cleaning, foam cleaning is an alternative meant for rugs that cannot tolerate a lot of moisture.
